Sears.com has expanded its online offerings substantially by selling third-party products in a move similar to other major Internet retailers.
As a result, customers now have access to more than 10 million products via Sears.com, the venerable retailer announced today, without specifying how many products it was selling online before the third-party agreement.
Sears follows Wal-Mart Stores Inc., at Walmart.com, and Amazon.com, in opening up their online offerings to third-party products.
“From furniture to art, beauty to clothing, appliances to electronics, sporting goods to shoes, customers can now get everything they need,” Sears said.
The vendors will pay Sears a fee for having its products listed, and a commission on any sales they make through the site. Sears did not release any financial projections.
“We believe that by providing customers with more products to choose from, along with the ability to compare offers for the same item across other sellers, our customers will be better informed to make the best decision for themselves,” said Imran Jooma, senior vice president for Online at Sears Holdings.
In late August Wal-Mart began selling a full line of third-party home, clothing and sporting products. Amazon began its similar practice of letting third parties sell items to its shoppers in 2000.
Sears Holdings is the nation’s fourth largest overall retailer with about 3,900 general merchandise and specialty retail stores in the United States and Canada.

I had my freezer repaired in Nov. It lasted a week of so and then it went out again. I have been trying to get it re-done ever since. There have
been at least 3 people here but for one reason or other it just doesn’t get
done. This is the 12 of Jan. Some one was supposed to come this morning.
No one came or called. The account is in Dorothy Carters name.
