The corporate marketing reliance on social media took a step further today with credit card giant American Express telling the legions of Conan O’Brien fans to tweet if they want to meet “Coco.”
American Express is the sponsor of O’Brien’s U.S. comedy stage tour, which launches April 12 in Eugene, Oregon. The brief and former host of the Tonight Show has himself become a popular Twitter celebrity in just three weeks with more than 692,000 followers. His Facebook fan page has more than 982,000 fans.
After several days of fans and followers buzzing about today’s American Express announcement, the sponsor posted a brief explanation on its website. AmEx provided the link on its own Twitter page with more than 14,500 followers.
“Enter for a chance to win a pair of VIP seats and meet Conan O’Brien!” the announcement says.
To enter, O’Brien fans need to follow @americanexpress on Twitter and tweet the following once:
Hey @americanexpress I want to be with Coco in (enter city here). Pick me! http://bit.ly/bEUqsh #amexConan
The choice of tour cities in the contest are: Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
Those interested should enter by Monday, March 22 at 11:59 p.m., Eastern time. American Express will randomly select five winners and announce their names – via Twitter, of course – on Tuesday, March 23rd at about noon, Eastern time.
