The American Express-sponsored U.S. comedy tour featuring former Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien was announced just two days ago and it’s already seeing sold-out shows and calls for adding more stops to the nearly 30-city road trip.
O’Brien, or “Coco,” as his devoted fans call him, has become a social media sensation, with the “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour” propelling his new online rock-star status.
The TeamCoco.com site is so overwhelmed with traffic that it has seen some intermittent downtime.
The “I’m with Coco” Facebook fan page has more than 977,000 fans. His two-week old Twitter page has more than 656,000 followers.
Here’s a sampling of his Facebook fan page postings from today:
“Is Atlanta (the last show) already sold out? Ticketmaster keeps telling me no tickets available.”
“Was so excited to hear Conan was going to be in Austin; tickets sold out immediately! No chance to grab one! He’s going to be sold out everywhere he goes…”
“You need to add another show to NYC!”
“Conan needs to come to Florida!”
And so on.
TMZ.com is reporting that O’Brien’ isn’t making any money from the comedy tour, instead he had about 40 people hired to work production, including many of his former Tonight Show staffers.
Tickets prices range from about $695 (for a ‘Meet & Greet’ package) to about $40.
