Consumers in North America bought more than 1 million units of Sony’s PlayStation 4, the latest video game console that sells for $399, in the first 24 hours of availability. That’s reportedly the fastest start for a PlayStation system.
Just after reports surfaced of Apple’s plans for curved glass, now comes a report that Samsung Electronics will feature a three-sided display on its leading Galaxy smartphone next year.
The iPhone 5C will be fairly expensive for most people around the world. So iPhone “C for Cheap” it really isn’t. The current iPhone 5 retails off-contract starting at about $649.
And with T-Mobile introducing no-contract installment plans, and the big 3 (Verizon, AT&T and Sprint) offering more payment options — all with little to no interest — the market will likely hit new highs this year, surpassing 1 billion smartphone shipments for the first time.
This means that Samsung’s smartphones and feature phones, led by the Galaxy series, are more profitable than the iPhone series.
Jump has the slight lead over AT&T’s Next and Verizon’s Edge upgrade plans because T-Mobile’s plans don’t lock you into a contract and its typical subsidy fee in the first place. And T-Mobile’s $10 a month fee covers replacement insurance, which would cost you almost that much even without Jump.
